SanFlare is a wotagei team based in the Bay Area region of California. Our team's mission is connect more people to the vibrant world of wota culture!

What is wotagei?

Although meanings can vary, wotagei commonly refers to a style of dance that uses glowsticks. This dance style originated from Japan, or specifically from fans of Japanese "idol" singers. The wota (ヲタ) part of wotagei is a Japanese term that means "idol fan". The gei (芸) part is Japanese for "arts".

Nowadays, wotagei can be seen at vtuber concerts and anime raves. While it is still associated with music from idols and anime, wotagei has grown to become its own artform.
